Lake Nona Commercial Development – First Quarter 2012
Lake Nona, known for its community feel and visionary thinking, is continuing to see those ideas emerging in the commercial real estate market. Medical City continues to lead the way the Sanford-Burnham Medical Institute, UCF College of Medicine and the Burnett Biomedical Sciences Building already opened and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Nemour’s Children’s Hospital and The University of Florida Research and Academic Center all scheduled to be operational later this year.
Lake Nona Middle School opened in the fall of 2011 with rave reviews and Valencia College’s Lake Nona campus is rapidly progressing and is scheduled to be ready for the fall of 2012 classes. It’s safe to say the academic infrastructure from elementary school through post-graduate education creates a strong foundation for the health of our community and the opportunities will be plentiful for those who live here.

People in Lake Nona have been talking for months about a Panera Bread coming to our little neck of the woods.
Central Florida based Panera Bread has two, possibly three deals in the works to bring the much desired restaurant to the Lake Nona area.

I am certainly not a professional restaurant critic. I am just a regular Lake Nona resident intent on supporting our local businesses and community members…but I must admit I have loved Nona Sushi since they opened a few years ago in the Lake Nona area. Deprived of restaurant choices in our community, my husband and I were doing back flips the first time we tried this excellent restaurant!
Nona Sushi has a warm ambiance and tranquility to it, making it a respite from a stressful workday for lunch, or a nice little date night location in the evenings. I especially like the water features and connection to nature, which reflects the landscape of the Lake Nona community.
Perhaps my favorite part of stopping in for lunch at Nona Sushi is the warm welcome from Ronnie, who remembers everyone’s name. It’s fun to joke around a bit with him before we order and he always remembers our special requests.
Jim and I typically dine during lunch. Jim likes the volcano and tuna rolls while my favorite is the crunch munch roll. I’m not a big fan of sushi, actually (I usually order the all cooked variety of rolls), but the sushi is so fresh here I have bravely ventured into trying the tuna rolls and have enjoyed it. I also sometimes order the Bento Box which is very yummy. Dinner time is also superb…and there are great choices for your non-sushi eating family and friends.
Nona Sushi offers a discount to all policemen, firefighters, teachers and nurses as well as members of the Lake Nona YMCA. UCF Medical School students and employees of the Burnham Institute, Nemours and the VA hospital also receive a discount. Sweet Mama’s of Lake Nona
My family has dined at Sweet Mamas in Lake Nona many a time for Sunday brunches and weeknight dinners, youth group get togethers and football team meals. Sweet Mamas has been a contributing member of the Lake Nona Community, proud sponsor of Relay for Life, provider of team meals and banquet food for the high school.
Sweet Mamas has a down home country atmosphere and family style dining. Our favorite is breakfast…I order the Country Fried Steak and Gravy with 2 eggs and hashbrowns. I like it all stacked up and they are kind enough to add some cheese on top. At lunch or dinner, I love the fish and chips (my daughter’s favorite too) and my daughter swears their french fries are the very best she’s ever had. At fifteen years old, I believe she qualifies as a french fry connoisseur, don’t you? My husband and son love their wings.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT IS WING NIGHT…AND FRIDAYS COME OUT FOR FISH!
